EHERCC has always enjoyed fantastic support at the London Landmarks Half Marathon (LLHM), and 2021 was no different. We were delighted that all 40 places were taken by supporters of our EHE patient community, forming the EHEAwesome40 Team. There was some trepidation in the weeks before the race as London basked in high temperatures and humidity, so everybody was delighted when the actual day of the run produced perfect weather. The EHEAwesome40 ran brilliantly, with Josie Savil coming 4th in the women's race. Everybody said how much they had enjoyed it and several have already put their names down for the 2022 event. The EHE cheer station was once again in evidence with EHE banners and flags out.
Not only was the running fantastic, but the associated fundraising was also special, with the EHEAwesome40 team together raising over £20,000 for EHE research. Hugh Leonard, Chair of Trustees, commented:
"2020 was a very difficult year for charities, with all sources of funds significantly reduced, and those that were able to continue facing sigificant competition for their resources. We made a policy decision not to push our supporters to fundraise last year as we knew many were facing uncertainty. We were also confident that when things began to return to normal we would see our brilliant supporters re-engaging, and the LLHM on 1st August showed that confidence was not misplaced. We could not be more grateful for this wonderful support, not only for us, but for the many EHE patients that friends and family were running for."
