Jane Gutkovich, a founder and one of the main driving forces of the EHE sister charities, organised and led the first international meeting and presentation dedicated to EHE to be held at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) conference in Chicago on 29th May 2015. The objectives of the meeting were to present results of her analysis of the EHE group’s worldwide patient database, stimulate discussion of the implications to EHE treatment and research, and to coordinate where possible further research efforts.
Attended by 15 of the world's leading oncologists, the meeting agreed to support a collaborative international EHE research programme. It was also agreed that this research programme should be coordinated by Dr Rubin from the Cleveland Clinic. Dr Rubin expressed a desire to hold a one-day conference dedicated to EHE in 2016, a target supported by those present. The EHE group will continue to work with Dr Rubin to ensure that this meeting comes to fruition.
The ASCO meeting is a powerful example of what a small group of dedicated individuals can achieve and of the benefits and insight that a database of patients from around the world can provide to the research and medical establishments. We are proud of the fact that EHE is now on the radar of the international research and oncology community, and congratulate Jane on this wonderful achievement.
