The 3rd June saw the first charity ball in support of the EHE Rare Cancer Charity held at the Hurlingham Club in west London. Milly and Alastair Simmie had organised the ball to celebrate the completion of Alastair’s Land’s End to John O’Groats bike ride with six friends. Over 220 guests attended the ball, including three EHE patients, together for the first time. Milly and Alastair both spoke movingly of how EHE had impacted their lives and their determination to raise funds for EHE research, and make a difference. The night included a raffle and charity auction, which together raised well over £50,000. This took Milly’s fundraising, with the support of her family and friends, to over £150,000. Hugh Leonard said “it is hard to put into words how impressive Milly and Alastair’s commitment and drive has been to the EHE research cause. They are making a real difference, and their example is inspiring others to also engage in fundraising efforts. They should be very proud of what they are achieving”.
